East Valley NAACP Announces Keynote Speaker and Freedom Fund Honorees

Arizona Informant, September 14, 2017 – The East Valley Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has announced the awardees to be honored at the 42nd Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 1. The theme is “Our Lives Matter, Our Votes Count” with keynote speaker the Honorable Corey Woods of the Phoenix Urban League and former vice mayor of Tempe. The Freedom Fund Awards Banquet will be held at the Doubletree Hilton Phoenix-Gilbert, 1800 S. San Tan Village Parkway, in Gilbert, 85295 at 11am.

“The awardees have created a path for others to ensure that human and civil rights are achieved, and that economic justice prevails,” said Interim President Rev. Ozetta Kirby

The award recipients are Carole Henry, Roy Wilkins Service; Reverends Jonathan and Sakena Young-Scaggs, Religion; Chief John M. Meza, Law Enforcement; Valerie Churchwell, Humanitarian; Shereka Jackson, Education; and Anthony Gathers, Business Leadership.
