THE CROWN ACT

Hair Discrimination is Race Discrimination.

The NAACP East Valley Branch is advocating for local legislation and public policy recognizing that hair discrimination is racially discriminatory. We are working to further prohibit such practices as they relate to employment, education, sports, housing accommodations, and public accommodations.

In 2023, Governor Katie Hobbs signed an Executive Order similar to the Crown Act. This is an important first step. We continue fighting forward for more permanent legal protections.
